Battle of Culloden
In 1745, Scottish Jacobites went to war with England as they tried to reinstate the Catholic line of monarchs, the Stuarts via "Bonnie Prince Charlie", to the English throne. The Scots lost their battle and lost the war, drastically changing the way the Scots lived their life from then-on. Highland culture was all but obliterated by the English as punishment for their rebellion, both the 1719 rebellion and the 1745 rebellion. Scottish culture has never been the same.
