9 sits on the dusty attic floor in front of the old broken TV. it's the only thing in the attic besides herself. she likes to imagine that it's story is similar to hers: dysfunctional and outcast, left to live the rest of it's days alone in the attic of an institute for troubled girls.
The tinkling laughter of the other children floats in through the thread bare curtains hanging over the cracked window. 9 has never seen the other girls, only heard their joyful screams from the garden. When she asks if she can join them, Matron says it's unsafe.
So, she spends her childhood behind the locked attic door.
